Hart's operates three distinct facilities designed to serve different geographic and service needs. The Cherry Street location at 765 Cherry Street in Macon houses the historic main facility with the on-site crematory operational since 1931. The Cupola location at 6324 Peake Road provides suburban Macon access. The Jones County Chapel at 307 Pecan Lane in Gray, located behind Exchange Bank, features the company's most specialized cremation center—described as the only facility of its kind in the country designed for family involvement in cremation ceremonies. The Jones County Chapel includes a spacious parking lot, chapel with multiple screens and projectors for video tributes, and a reception area for post-service gatherings. All facilities offer comfortable seating and are designed to accommodate full funeral services.
Hart's Mortuary and Cremation Center traces its origins to 1899, when Jessie B. Hart purchased a local undertaking firm in Macon. By 1904, the business had added one of Macon's first automobile ambulances and constructed chapel facilities to meet evolving family expectations. The firm grew to six full-time employees by 1926, with both Jesse Hart and his brother J. Freeman Hart serving as presidents of the Georgia State Funeral Association.
In 1931, Hart's constructed its current Cherry Street location and established what has become one of the longest-running on-site crematory operations in the region. The business remained under Hart family operation until 1982, when J. Milton Heard III acquired it. Today, J. Milton Heard IV serves as owner and president, continuing the family-owned structure that the business credits for its operational autonomy and service consistency.
Hart's now operates three facilities: the original Cherry Street location in downtown Macon, the Cupola location on Peake Road, and the Jones County Chapel in Gray—opened as the most recent expansion to serve growing demand in middle Georgia.
