Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home carries a legacy dating to 1929, when it operated as Sullivan, Burns & Blair in the Romaine Mansion in downtown Fresno. One of its original owners, California Senator Hugh Burns, eventually sold the company due to Senate duties. The Whitehurst family, with founder Joel A. Whitehurst beginning funeral services in 1911, purchased the business and expanded it into a premier provider serving all faiths in the Central Valley.
In 1964, the funeral home relocated to its current location in the Fig Garden area of North Fresno, building a state-of-the-art, full-service facility to accommodate growing demand. Today, it operates as part of the Dignity Memorial network while maintaining its local identity and longtime employee leadership. The team's hallmark approach centers on listening to families to craft memorial experiences that reflect individual lives, times, and passions.
The funeral home serves nine communities across the Central San Joaquin Valley, including Clovis, Fowler, Madera, and surrounding areas. Its motto, "Our commitment to serving you comes first," has guided operations for nearly a century.
