The building was originally designed with reinforced construction to serve as a community air raid shelter and emergency triage hospital.
Hazen & Jaeger Valley offers arrangements by phone or email with electronic signature capability, allowing families to complete planning remotely. The facility provides event planning services and meeting space for corporate and organization use beyond funeral services.
Hazen & Jaeger Valley Funeral Home has operated continuously from its 1306 N Pines Road location since 1955, when the original Hazen & Jaeger Funeral Home—founded in 1910 by John B. Hazen and Charles P. Jaeger—expanded eastward to serve Spokane's growing communities. The facility was constructed during the Korean War era with dual-purpose design: an elegant funeral home that could also function as an air raid shelter and triage hospital if needed.
The building sits next to Valley Hospital with immediate Interstate 90 access, making it geographically central for the Spokane metro area. In 1999, the funeral home joined the Dignity Memorial network while maintaining its local operation. The facility retains its original mid-century modern design philosophy, updated to accommodate contemporary celebration-of-life services with full catering capabilities and outdoor event options on its park-like grounds.
