Services
Graham Funeral Home publishes a General Price List as a downloadable PDF, noting that the physical copy at the funeral home determines actual costs. Pre-paid arrangements lock in prices on guaranteed items with refunds if trusts overperform; non-guaranteed portions function as savings accounts for external expenses like cemetery fees. Pre-paid trusts are Medicaid-exempt, protecting assets beyond the $2,000 limit.
Opened in June 1998, the single-story facility sits one mile south of the Chesapeake/Virginia Beach city line and two miles from Battlefield Boulevard. The building centers on a 250-seat chapel designed as a dignified alternative to church settings, with tasteful décor emphasizing comfort over grandeur. Six visitation rooms include the combined Magnolia and Rose rooms that can be divided as needed. The 1,800 square foot reception center accommodates post-service gatherings with flexible catering options. All refrigeration and cremation equipment is housed on-site in the main building, with photos of both available under the About tab. Office hours run 9 am to 4 pm daily with 24/7 phone availability.
Graham Funeral Home emphasizes complete care so families can focus on comforting each other, guiding them through product selection, obituary writing, publication assistance, and floral arrangements.
Graham Funeral Home & Crematory traces its roots to June 1929, when J. Robert "Bob" Graham founded the original location on Berkley Avenue in Norfolk. The firm relocated to South Norfolk in 1930, where it operated for 75 years before Bonnie and Marie Smith purchased the business in 1975 and later opened the current Kempsville Road location in June 1998. S. Scott Stroud acquired the funeral home in January 2010, becoming the fifth owner in its history, and has since transitioned it into a true family operation with three of his four daughters now working in the business—two pursuing funeral director licensure and one managing the reception center.
The funeral home serves families throughout Hampton Roads and Northeast North Carolina, with staff licensed in both Virginia and North Carolina. Their commitment to Chesapeake runs deep: the Stroud family lives, worships, and pays taxes in the city, with multiple generations tied to local schools and community institutions.
