Altmeyer Funeral Homes & Crematory traces its origins to 1917 when James P. Altmeyer founded the first location in Wheeling, West Virginia. The Chesapeake Chapel at 929 South Battlefield Boulevard represents one of six Hampton Roads facilities, acquired in 2010 and renovated in 2011. The 2.5-acre property serves families throughout Chesapeake, southern Virginia Beach (formerly Princess Anne County), Moyock, and northern Currituck County, North Carolina.

The Chesapeake facility occupies the former Twiford Funeral Home site, originally constructed in 1968. Altmeyer's expansion into Virginia began in 1995 with the Southside location, followed by Denbigh (2000), Virginia Beach (1998), and Maestas (2007). The organization now operates 12 facilities across three states while maintaining its original founder's principles: quality service, honesty, and strong work ethic.
