Memphis Funeral Home traces its origins to 1931, when it opened as National Funeral Home with a focus on pre-planned, affordable funeral services. By the early 1960s, it had become the busiest funeral home in the United States, serving more than 3,000 families annually from a single location. The name changed to Memphis Funeral Home in 1962.
Located at 5599 Poplar Avenue across from Memorial Park Cemetery—the largest cemetery in Tennessee—the facility occupies a prominent position in Memphis's Financial District. The interior design draws inspiration from the city's Peabody Hotel, with a bright, open foyer and a fireplace maintained during winter months. The business has been managed since 1970 by Paul B. McCarver and E.C. Daves, who now serves as President.
The funeral home joined the Dignity Memorial network, combining locally operated service with access to North America's largest network of funeral, burial, cremation, and cemetery providers. The facility has served a diverse clientele over its history, including homeless veterans, U.S. senators, Tennessee governors, and Memphis's most famous musician.
