Craciun Berry Funeral Home traces its origins to 1941, when John Craciun Jr.—a decorated WWII medic who received two Purple Hearts and two Bronze Stars—opened the original location at 6204 Detroit Ave. across from St. Mary Romanian Orthodox Church, the first Romanian Orthodox church in the United States. His wife Yolanda joined him in establishing what would become a multigenerational family business.
Their sons Joseph and Jim Craciun entered the business in the 1970s, expanding the family's reach by acquiring Koval Funeral Home in Middleburg Heights after John Jr.'s death in 1985. The 1995 affiliation with Dignity Memorial connected Craciun with Corrigan and Berry Funeral Homes, creating a five-location network serving Cleveland, Fairview Park, Middleburg Heights and Westlake.
The current Detroit Avenue facility underwent a significant renovation in 2018, transforming it into a modern Celebration of Life center with flexible chapel space, coffee lounge, and technology for tribute videos and custom playlists. Located near the Gordon Square Arts District, the facility balances contemporary amenities with the founders' original commitment to personalized service.
Pleasant staff and phenomenal service. Worked around our budget and still gave us the quality service that our family needed going through this hard moment. Unfortunately, not her first time seeking their services and definitely will not be the last.
