Riemann Family Funeral Homes traces its origins to 1920, when Ernest Theodore Riemann, Sr. and his wife Ruth Danielson Riemann purchased half interest in the Wilder Funeral Home in downtown Gulfport. The couple had migrated from Michigan after a vacation visit to the Golden Gulf Coast, leaving their existing funeral business to establish roots in Mississippi. The following year, they acquired the remaining half of the business—a transaction documented by the original handwritten buy/sell agreement still in their possession today.
Under second-generation leadership of Robert "Bob" M. Riemann, who served in the U.S. Army at Camp Shelby during World War II while working in the business, the company expanded significantly through the 1950s, 1980s. Third-generation brothers David and Mike Riemann began their careers in the 1970s and remain active today. The fourth generation—Chad Riemann (since 1995) and Addison Riemann (since 2011)—represent the family's continuing commitment to funeral service on the Coast.
