His path to funeral service began at Commonwealth Mortuary School in Houston, interrupted by service as a combat field medic with the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam, where he received multiple medals and citations.
After returning from military service, Walters spent 41 years as general manager of a relative's funeral home before establishing his own operation. He has served as Executive Director of the Louisiana Funeral Directors Association for 12 years and was named to the National Funeral Directors Association Policy Board in 1995. His son Benjamin Ross Walters and daughter Cecile Walters Trotter have joined the business, creating a multi-generational operation.
