Greenlawn Memorial Gardens occupies 45 acres of pastoral land in Upper Lafayette, distinguished by its collection of registered oak trees and maintained gardens. The property offers in-ground burial spaces, above-ground tombs, and mausoleum crypts accommodating both traditional and cremation burials.
In 2011, Gene and Phyllis Walters of Walters Funerals, LLC acquired the cemetery from the family of Judge Allen Babineaux, ending more than four decades of Babineaux family ownership. The Walters had established Walters Funeral Home in 2010 on the same block of North University Avenue, creating operational proximity between the funeral home and cemetery. Since the acquisition, improvements have included new business offices, a redesigned garden entrance, landscaping enhancements, drainage and road upgrades, and expanded merchandise offerings.
The cemetery operates as a perpetual care facility, with maintenance costs incorporated into purchase prices rather than billed as separate annual assessments.
