McGilley & Frye Funeral Home & Cremation Service occupies a landmark position in downtown Olathe, with roots extending back to 1897 when the McGilley and Frye families first began providing funeral services. The current location at 105 E. Loula Street has served as a funeral home since 1929, when W.L. Frye and Sons established what became the first licensed funeral home in Johnson County. More than 2,000 guests attended the original open house, signaling the community's early embrace of the facility.
The funeral home's physical plant reflects decades of evolution. A major expansion in 1949 added an air-conditioned chapel with 200-person capacity, a private family room, and a dedicated music room. In 2002, the McGilley family's acquisition of W.L. Frye and Son Funeral Home created the present entity, merging operations that collectively represent over 200 years of service history in the region. The funeral home maintains active membership in the Olathe Chamber of Commerce.
