The cemetery occupies elevated terrain above the Fox River's east bank, featuring mature tree canopy and historically significant memorial architecture. The grounds include a private mausoleum structure and dedicated cremation garden space. Families have specifically praised the groundskeeping crew—naming Pat in one 2022 testimonial—for proactive maintenance including stone cleaning, pea gravel installation, and grass restoration.
Woodlawn Cemetery occupies a commanding position high above the east bank of the Fox River in Green Bay, Wisconsin. The cemetery traces its origins to March 28, 1856, when it was incorporated by a group of the city's most prominent citizens—though platting and first burials did not commence until 1867. The name "Woodlawn" was suggested by founding president Henry S. Baird, a figure of considerable standing in early Green Bay history.
The cemetery grounds hold significant historical resonance. Among its notable memorials is the private mausoleum of Dr. William E. Minahan, who perished in the Titanic disaster on April 15, 1912. Several of the cemetery's founders—including Baird, Eugene Eastman, Charles D. Robinson, Dr. Daniel W. King, Timothy O. Howe, Nathan Goodell, Frank Desnoyers, and Burley Follett—now rest beneath the shade of the same trees they helped establish.
Today Woodlawn operates as a non-denominational cemetery welcoming all faiths, offering both traditional in-ground burial and above-ground cremation options including a distinctive cremation garden.
