Demaine Funeral Home traces its origins to 1789, when the family operated as cabinetmakers crafting caskets—including one for General George Washington. The formal funeral business opened in 1841 at the corner of Fairfax and Prince streets, making it one of Virginia's oldest continuously operating businesses. Early ledgers document services for prominent statesmen and Virginia families.
The current South Washington Street location dates to 1929, when Windsor Demaine Jr. moved the operation to a four-story white-column building with on-site parking, a flower shop, large chapel, and multiple parlors. The Alexandria facility underwent significant remodeling in 2017 to accommodate more casual gatherings and catered events.
In 2016, Joe Everly and his daughter Danielle—fourth-generation funeral directors—joined Windsor Demaine III, merging their Fairfax operation into the Demaine brand. The partnership united two families with deep Northern Virginia roots, maintaining local ownership while gaining the resources of the Dignity Memorial network since 1992.
