After purchasing the Eakle Funeral Home that year, Blackburn opened Blackburn's Funeral Directors on S. Polk Street in 1919. As the business expanded, he relocated to 5th and Pierce, where in 1941 he constructed Amarillo's first purpose-built funeral chapel.
