The recently renovated facility on Webb Road at Highway 58 features spacious visitation staterooms configurable for both large gatherings and intimate family viewings. The on-site chapel accommodates over 200 guests. A dedicated coffee room allows families to bring in deli trays, sandwiches, chips, cakes, and pies, with coffee provided by staff and a soft drink vending machine available. The building offers ground-level parking with easy accessibility. Located at the fourth traffic light south of Highway 153 between the Lake Hills and Murray Hills areas, the facility is centrally positioned for access to all city and county cemeteries.
Turner Funeral Home provides comprehensive arrangement assistance, handling documentation and coordination with cemeteries, government agencies, and insurers. Families may bring their own music on CD or utilize the extensive prerecorded library, and live musicians are welcome to use the on-site piano, organ, and microphones.
Turner Funeral Home holds the distinction of being Chattanooga's oldest funeral home still under the continuous ownership of its founding family. Established in 1936 by Eugene Turner in the Ridgedale community at the foot of Missionary Ridge, the business began in a small white house on Dodds Avenue. The family expanded to a larger Williamsburg-style brick building in the early 1950s, which featured the largest funeral home chapel in the Chattanooga area at that time.
In 1990, current owner Mike Turner and his wife Sandy purchased two acres on Highway 58 at Webb Road in the Lakeside community, opening this second chapel location. Mike Turner, who began working at the funeral home as a child in the mid-1960s and purchased the business from his uncle in 1977, continues to operate the facility independently. The Webb Road location was dedicated to his father, James "Bookie" Turner, who served as Sheriff and Fire & Police Commissioner.
The facility has been recently renovated and operates under the Golden Rule principle: "Do unto others as you would want them to do unto you." This philosophy has guided the business for over 85 years.
