Services
The cemetery spans the original 1859 chartered grounds near University Street and East 25th Avenue. Hope Abbey serves as the primary gathering point for tours and events. The property maintains its historic character without modern parking infrastructure—visitors park on surrounding city streets. The landscape preserves 19th-century cemetery design with mature oak trees and historic grave markers.
The cemetery operates through the Eugene Masonic Cemetery Association, with an administrator available to assist families with burial arrangements and memorial choices.
The Eugene Masonic Cemetery occupies a unique position in Oregon's burial landscape as both a National Register of Historic Places site and an active, operating cemetery. Established in 1859—making it Eugene's first chartered cemetery—the grounds hold the remains of city founder Eugene Skinner and artist Maude Kerns among other pioneers. Despite retaining "Masonic" in its name as a historic reference, the cemetery maintains no official affiliation with the Masonic Lodge. The Eugene Masonic Cemetery Association operates the property, with donations qualifying for Oregon Cultural Trust tax credits. Free public tours occur monthly, including guided walks led by volunteers such as Caroline Forell.
