Services
The cemetery encompasses 200 acres of rolling hills with distinct zones for active services and historic preservation. The Woodland Mausoleum provides climate-controlled above-ground entombment. Cemetery gates operate on seasonal schedules, with the main Woodland Avenue entrance open daily 8 AM–7 PM (6 PM winter). The property includes extensive vehicle-accessible roads through landscaped terrain, with the Waldo Street entrance currently closed for safety improvements.
Woodland Cemetery approaches service through a dual mission: providing dignified funeral and burial services while preserving a historic landscape that serves as community greenspace and educational resource.
Woodland Cemetery and Arboretum occupies 200 rolling acres in the heart of Dayton, Ohio, established in 1841 as one of the nation's oldest rural garden cemeteries. The property functions as both an active cemetery and a certified arboretum, with over 3,000 trees and 165 specimens of native Midwestern woody plants gracing its grounds. Many trees exceed a century in age, and ten have earned designation as Ohio Champions by the Ohio Forestry Association.
The cemetery operates as a cultural, botanical, and educational resource, offering guided historic tours, seasonal programming, and community events alongside its funeral and burial services. The grounds feature the Woodland Mausoleum and maintain distinct gate hours: Woodland Avenue entrance opens daily from 8 AM to 7 PM (6 PM in winter), while the mausoleum operates 9 AM to 5 PM. The Waldo Street entrance is currently closed for safety.
Woodland Cemetery & Arboretum serves families with both pre-need and at-need arrangements, supported by family service advisors who guide burial, cremation, and memorial planning.
