Oleander Memorial Gardens occupies approximately 40 acres of rolling hills in Wilmington, developed in 1966-1967 on land that was previously the Coble family's horse farm. The property's distinctive 2-acre lake—formed using portions of the old Wrightsville Beach drawbridge floated to the site by barge—anchors a landscape of century-old live oaks draped with Spanish moss, azaleas, and fenced pastures converted to gardens and paved roads.
The cemetery joined the Dignity Memorial network in mid-1976 alongside sister company Coble Funeral Service, and has served Wilmington-area families for more than 50 years. The first mausoleum was constructed in 1974, with Iona "Billie" Coble becoming its first entombment that Christmas. Today the property offers traditional burial, mausoleum entombment, and cremation memorialization with professional staff available for both immediate needs and advance planning.
For funeral and cremation services, families are directed to sister location Coble Funeral & Cremation Service, a 15-minute drive away at Greenlawn Memorial Park, which opened in a new building in spring 2020.
