Services
The 2020-built facility features a contemporary chapel with rustic exposed beams, high ceilings, and wood-effect tile flooring designed for transformation between traditional funeral and celebration-of-life configurations. The space accommodates hundreds of guests. A covered carport provides weather protection for arrivals and departures. Parking is described as plentiful. The building is large enough to host multiple families simultaneously while maintaining privacy between services. Greenlawn Memorial Park itself offers acres of manicured lawns with winding streets and sidewalks. Cemetery options include ground burial, private and community mausoleums (indoor and outdoor), columbaria with glass-front niche options, cremation gardens with pedestals and benches, and family estate lots customizable with stained glass, benches, and landscaping. A dedicated Muslim section and veterans section are located within the cemetery.
Coble Funeral & Cremation Service at Greenlawn Memorial Park opened in spring 2020 as a purpose-built, state-of-the-art facility directly on the cemetery grounds at 1155 Shipyard Boulevard. This represents a significant evolution for a funeral operation with roots dating to 1936, when Randolph Ladd Coble Sr. and his wife Iona established the original business on Walnut Street in Wilmington. The current location replaced the Oleander Drive facility and introduced something new to the Wilmington market: the ability to handle funeral services, cremation, and cemetery burial without families needing to travel between locations.
The facility sits minutes from Mayfaire, Wrightsville Beach, and midtown Wilmington, with proximity to New Hanover Regional Medical Center and Lower Cape Fear LifeCare. The building design emphasizes flexibility—a single chapel space transforms from traditional funeral seating to reception hall with round tables, capable of accommodating hundreds of guests. The architecture incorporates rustic exposed beams, high ceilings, and wood-effect tile flooring, with a covered carport protecting guests from weather during arrivals and departures.
The integration with Greenlawn Memorial Park, founded in 1948, creates a seamless experience. The cemetery's biblical gardens and manicured grounds sit on sandy soil linking back to local beaches, with winding streets and sidewalks designed for peaceful navigation.
