Brown-Wynne Funeral Home & Crematory traces its origins to 1836, when Henry J. Brown founded the H.J. Brown Coffin House in Raleigh—making it the oldest business in the city and the oldest funeral home in North Carolina. The operation has remained in continuous family hands for six generations, with each era marked by innovation: John W. Brown became the first president of the North Carolina Funeral Directors Association, and in 1915, Fab Brown introduced motor-driven hearses to the business. The current Saint Mary's Street location was built in 1954 by Robert W. Wynne Jr., who expanded operations to Cary in 1969 and Millbrook in 1973. The firm joined the Dignity Memorial network in 1991 and added the Wynne Center in 2006. In 2012, founder Henry J. Brown was inducted into the Raleigh Hall of Fame.
Today, Brown-Wynne operates as a Dignity Memorial provider, combining its historic local roots with the resources of North America's largest funeral network. The facility maintains two private on-site crematories—eliminating third-party transfers—and offers what it describes as all-inclusive cremation pricing. The Wynne Center serves as the largest celebration-of-life venue in the Raleigh area, configurable for gatherings ranging from intimate breakfasts to full banquet receptions.

Brown Wynne was extremely professional and met every need our family expressed during this difficult time. I will always be grateful.

We were treated with kindness and respect. In addition, we received much needed guidance.
