Services
The cemetery occupies a substantial footprint along North National Avenue with over 100 acres remaining undeveloped. The property features mature landscaping including the original maple trees planted by founder Benjamin Diemer in 1905. Two recently developed cremation gardens—the Garden of Tranquility and Garden of Hope—provide dedicated spaces for cremation memorialization with paved walkways and floral arrangements. All cemetery business is conducted through the adjacent funeral home offices at 3506 North National Avenue.
Greenlawn's service model emphasizes personalization and family consultation, with staff taking time to understand each family's specific needs before creating tributes.
Greenlawn Memorial Gardens traces its origins to 1905, when Benjamin Jacob Diemer established the cemetery on a portion of his family's dairy farm. What began as a personal vision—marked by the planting of hundreds of maple trees that still shade the grounds today—has grown into the largest cemetery in the Springfield area. The Diemer family has maintained continuous ownership through six generations, with Jake Diemer and his son Jason J. Diemer currently overseeing day-to-day operations alongside Jason's son, Boston Jacob Diemer.
The 3600 North National Avenue property sits adjacent to Greenlawn Funeral Home North, with cemetery offices located at the funeral home address. The cemetery's reputation rests on meticulous groundskeeping and what the family describes as an attention to detail that leaves no aspect of care unnoticed.
