McGilley State Line Chapel traces its roots to 1899, when Eylar Brothers Undertakers first opened in Kansas City. The firm evolved through multiple mergers—becoming Mellody and McGilley in 1930 when James P. McGilley Sr. joined, then purchasing Eylar Brothers in 1944 and Quirk and Tobin in 1954. The current State Line Road location opened in 1991 on 5 acres, built as a state-of-the-art facility to serve Kansas City families.
Today, McGilley State Line Chapel operates as part of the Dignity Memorial network, the largest provider of funeral, cremation and cemetery services in North America. Two generations of the McGilley family remain involved in operations.
