Each location maintains distinct architectural character—the Warren location features a columned façade, welcoming foyer, carpeted staircase, chapel, large gathering rooms, and ample parking. The Grosse Pointe flagship, expanded in 1951, anchors the network from its Mack Avenue origins. All locations offer reception capabilities for post-service gatherings.

Verheyden Funeral Homes traces its origins to 1910, when founder Charles L. Verheyden established his first storefront funeral home on Mack Avenue near Detroit's old Eastern High School. At just 20 years old, Verheyden had already completed an apprenticeship under Frank E. Campbell of New York, then the nation's largest funeral home operator. The business relocated to its present Grosse Pointe Park location in 1942, with a major expansion in 1951 that more than doubled the facility's size.
Today, Verheyden operates five locations across metropolitan Detroit: Grosse Pointe, Clinton Township, Eastpointe, Warren, and Detroit. The organization continues the legacy of multiple family funeral firms that have partnered with Verheyden over the decades, including the Duross, Weitenberner, Risko, S.K. Schultz, Don Graham, and Cantrell families. Brian A. Joseph serves as Owner and Chairman, guiding the organization's operations across all locations.
The funeral home group maintains its original founding principle: offering families choice in facilities, services, and costs. This philosophy extends to their multilingual capabilities, with Spanish-speaking staff and full Muslim funeral services with casket available in Arabic.
