The cemetery provides comprehensive cemetery services rather than funeral home operations, partnering with families and funeral directors for burial and cremation memorialization. Staff emphasize personalized service based on "wants, needs and desires" as the foundation for arrangements.
Forest Park West Cemetery traces its origins to a few acres settled in the early 1800s by the Moore family, who established the grounds as a place for family remembrance. The Emily Moore Memorial Garden now sits at the cemetery's center. In 1958, the Raspberry family purchased the property, formally establishing Forest Park West Cemetery as a sister location to Forest Park Cemetery on St. Vincent Avenue. The first burial under the new ownership took place on December 3, 1958.
Today, the cemetery spans 132 acres at the intersection of 70th Street and Meriwether Road in Shreveport. Despite its size, the grounds are deliberately secluded while remaining minutes from any point in the Greater Shreveport/Bossier City Area. The Raspberry family continues to operate the cemetery as one of the largest family-owned and operated burial parks in the region.
