The on-site crematory sits within Metairie Cemetery grounds and features a private witness/viewing room for families who wish to observe. The property includes extensive cemetery space: 127 acres at Metairie Cemetery, 25 acres at adjacent Lake Lawn Park and Mausoleum, plus the Tranquil Oaks Cremation Garden with water features and landscaped walkways.
The funeral home accommodates services of all denominations and scales, from simple direct cremation to elaborate celebrations of life. Families can arrange everything remotely or visit the facility for in-person planning.
Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home opened in 1979 as the first funeral home in New Orleans built directly on cemetery grounds. The facility sits at 5100 Pontchartrain Boulevard, sharing a location with Metairie Cemetery (established 1872) and Lake Lawn Park and Mausoleum (established 1949). This integrated setup allows families to handle funeral services, cremation, and burial arrangements without leaving the property.
The funeral home operates as part of the Dignity Memorial network and serves seven parishes across the New Orleans metro area: Jefferson, Orleans, Plaquemines, St. Bernard, St. Charles, St. Tammany, and Tangipahoa. The staff cites more than 250 years of combined experience.
Metairie Cemetery itself holds National Register of Historic Places status (added 1991) and was named by Forbes in 2003 as one of the 10 Most Interesting Cemeteries in the World. The 127-acre property retains the oval racetrack footprint from its previous life as the Metairie Race Course.

I chose Lake Lawn Metairie Funeral Home and Cemeteries for my wife’s final resting place in the All Saints Mausoleum because of the reputation for cleanliness and the high standard of facility upkeep. While the grounds are well maintained, I must share a deeply disappointing expe...
We were very happy with the service we got planning Jacob Kottle funeral. Everyone was very courteous and informative explaining the process of what we are selecting. Very impressed with how smooth the planning went. We would definitely recommend LakeLawn!
