The Runge Mortuary & Crematory traces its origins to 1895, when Henry Runge founded the funeral home on 3rd Street in Davenport. The funeral home has remained in continuous family operation across five generations. Henry's son Martin assumed leadership in 1916, followed by Martin's three sons—Albert F., Henry C., and William M. Peter Runge joined in 1972, and Henry C. Runge III came aboard in 1991, maintaining the family's direct involvement for over 125 years.
