Elzey-Patterson-Rodak Home for Funerals traces its origins to 1895, when Abner S. Elzey—an ordained Methodist minister—and his wife Sarah Ellen Linn Elzey purchased the Thurber and Salisbury funeral business in Ossian, Indiana. Their son Dale joined as partner in 1916, creating Elzey and Son. The family expanded to Waynedale in the late 1930s, opening a location on Old Trail Road where the funeral home operates today.
The business evolved through several name changes reflecting its leadership: Elzey-Dickey-Haggard in 1975, then Elzey-Patterson-Rodak in the late 1970s when John Patterson and Thomas Rodak became partners. Both men remain involved as consultants. The funeral home joined the Dignity Memorial network while maintaining its local identity and commitment to the Waynedale community that Abner S. Elzey personally named in 1921.
Today the facility offers traditional funeral services, Life Well Celebrated memorialization, cremation options, and advance planning with up to 10% savings on prepaid arrangements.
