The location is one of five serving the Fort Wayne area, with roots tracing to 1925 when founder D.O. McComb—a former Allen County Schools superintendent—opened the first location on East Lewis Street despite 27 competing funeral homes already operating in the community. That first year, the business served 20 families.
The Maplewood Park facility joined the network's expansion, which saw sons Walter and David McComb enter the business in 1940 and later add emergency ambulance service at no extra cost. A significant infrastructure investment came in 2012 with the opening of the Tribute Center, a multipurpose building housing crematory operations and reception space for catered gatherings. In 2016, the operation joined the Dignity Memorial network, North America's largest funeral provider network. The business is currently marking its centennial anniversary, 1925-2025.
