D.O. McComb & Sons Funeral Homes - Lakeside Park stands as the flagship location of Fort Wayne's most established funeral home network, celebrating 100 years of continuous service from 1925 to 2025. The Lake Avenue facility opened in 1928, just three years after founder D.O. McComb launched the business from East Lewis Street. Formerly superintendent of Allen County Schools, McComb brought community trust built over two decades in public education to his new venture.
Situated two blocks from Lakeside Park & Rose Garden and just north of downtown Fort Wayne, this location serves as the cornerstone of the company's five-location network. A major 2000 renovation expanded the central business office and created the standalone Arrangements Center across the courtyardâa dedicated space where families from all D.O. McComb locations make funeral arrangements. The facility joined the Dignity Memorial network in 2016, combining local heritage with national resources.
