C.M. Sloan & Sons Funeral Home traces its origins to 1887, when Chauncey Maurice Sloan established the business in Cromwell, Indiana as a furniture store and casket maker. The Fort Wayne location emerged in 1921 when Sloan acquired Ryan-Melching Undertaking, initially operating from a converted residence at 327 Berry Street before relocating to 301 Berry Street around 1930. The funeral home has occupied its current North Wells Street address since 1939, though founder C.M. Sloan died en route to a funeral directors convention in California during that move and never conducted a service from the original building.
Following Sloan's death, his wife Sadie and their four sons—John, Ralph, Russell and Richard—continued operations until the 1960s, when longtime employees E.A. Flickinger, Charlie Jones and Harrison Manning assumed ownership. Today, C.M. Sloan & Sons operates as a member of the Dignity Memorial network, maintaining affiliations with Lindenwood Cemetery, Highland Park Cemetery and Greenlawn Memorial Park for families requiring cemetery services. The facility maintains a 4.8-star rating from 140 verified customer reviews.
