Campbell & Sons Funeral Home, Inc. traces its roots to 1936, when Sidney A. Jones Sr. founded what would become one of Savannah's most prominent African American funeral homes. Originally located at 511 W. Waldburg Street, the firm was forced to relocate under the Urban Renewal Act to its current address at 124 W. Park Avenue in the historic district of Savannah.
Following Sidney A. Jones Sr.'s death in 1978, his wife Carolyn B. Jones continued operations, establishing the funeral home as the leading African American funeral home in Savannah. She operated the business until her retirement in October 2006, when she sold it to David L. Campbell Sr., whom she had personally trained for 14 years after hiring him fresh out of high school in September 1979. Mrs. Jones described the business as an "Institution with a Soul," a philosophy David L. Campbell Sr. continues to uphold.
