Strong & Jones Funeral Home Inc

Strong & Jones Funeral Home traces its origins to the early 1940s when Thomas Strong purchased Mitchell Funeral Home at the corner of West Carolina and Copeland Streets. Following Strong's sudden death in 1947, his widow Mamie Johnson Simmons Strong partnered with funeral director Elbert W. Jones, creating a family-owned institution that has served Tallahassee for over 75 years. The original Mitchell Funeral Home building remains incorporated into the modern facility at 629 West Brevard Street.

The business flourished through the combined efforts of both families. Robert C. Strong became a licensed funeral director in 1951, while Linn Ann Jones Griffin earned her license in 1983 and continues as co-owner today. The Jones and Strong families worked across multiple roles—from ambulance calls and hospital transports to removals, funeral assistance, and administrative operations—establishing operational patterns that continue in the present day.

Strong & Jones distinguishes itself through sustained community engagement and professional standards. The funeral home holds membership in seven industry and civic organizations including the National Funeral Directors Association, Florida Morticians Association, and both Tallahassee and Capital City Chambers of Commerce. Staff participate in continuing education to maintain current professional knowledge.
