Maspons Funeral Home traces its origins to 1948, when Leopoldo "Polito" Rivero founded Rivero Funeral Homes in Havana, Cuba. After the communist government seized his business in 1963, Rivero rebuilt in Miami's exile community, opening Rivero Funeral Homes in 1965 and expanding to three locations by 1993. In 1997, Rivero partnered with his grandsons Eric and Miguel Maspons to establish Maspons Funeral Home, now operating two locations in Miami and Westchester. The firm has become one of the highest-volume funeral homes in South Florida, with staff combining over 100 years of experience. Rivero continued serving families until his death in August 2006 at age 50-plus years in the profession.
