James C. Boyd Funeral Home operates from 2324 Sistrunk Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale's historic corridor, serving Broward, Miami-Dade, and Palm Beach counties since 1971. The business has remained family-owned and operated for over 53 years. Current owner Avis Boyd-Gaines, daughter of founder James C. Boyd, Sr., assumed leadership after a 26-year career in the United States Army, where she rose to positions including Inspector General at the Pentagon and First Sergeant in Korea. She holds an Associate of Science in Mortuary Science from Miami-Dade College (1981), a Bachelor of Science in Occupational Education from Wayland Baptist University, and a Master's in Human Resources from Trident University International.
Boyd-Gaines was named 2014 Mortician of the Year by the Florida Morticians Association and received The Legion of Merit, the highest peacetime military award. The funeral home maintains active membership in the Florida Morticians Association, Broward County Business and Professional Women's Network, The Kiwanis Club of Central Broward, and 100 Black Women of Funeral Services, Inc.
