Evergreen Cemetery encompasses 11 acres in Fort Lauderdale's Harbordale neighborhood. The property features a natural setting on Cliff Lake with extensive tree coverage throughout the grounds. Historic monuments and markers are interspersed among the mature landscaping. The cemetery offers traditional in-ground burial plots as well as sites for private family mausoleums. Grounds are accessible to visitors during daylight hours.
Evergreen Cemetery traces its origins to Fort Lauderdale's earliest days, when Mr. and Mrs. Ed T. King—pioneers who settled in the area in 1895—established the cemetery around 1910-1911 on a portion of their roughly 90-acre holdings. Mrs. King personally platted the original cemetery grounds. The City of Fort Lauderdale purchased Evergreen Cemetery on June 19, 1917 for $2,000, continuing to acquire adjacent parcels through 1938 to reach its present 11-acre footprint.
Today, Evergreen Cemetery serves as the final resting place for many of Fort Lauderdale's pioneering families. The cemetery occupies a distinctive setting on Cliff Lake, with mature tree canopy creating a serene environment among historic monuments and markers. The property remains an active burial ground with available plots and sites for private family mausoleums.
