Services
Built in 1973 as East Hartford's first purpose-built funeral structure, the single-story facility features a covered entryway for weather protection. For large visitations, staff deploy additional covered outdoor areas with fans or heaters. The chapel offers a casual, relaxed atmosphere designed to reduce formality and stress for grieving families.
D'Esopo emphasizes personalized celebrations that reflect individual passions, from incorporating motorcycles and work vehicles into services to sourcing decorations from family orchards.
D'Esopo East Hartford Memorial Chapel traces its roots to 1905, when Joseph D'Esopo founded the original mortuary on Temple Street to serve Hartford's Italian community. The current Carter Street facility, opened in 1973, was the first structure in East Hartford designed and built exclusively for funeral purposes. In 2021, the chapel integrated the team from Glastonbury Funeral Home, consolidating operations at the East Hartford location.
The D'Esopo family has maintained continuous ownership for over 115 years, with Joseph's grandchildren currently operating the business. In 2016, the organization joined the Dignity Memorial network while retaining family leadership. The chapel serves East Hartford, Glastonbury, Manchester and surrounding communities.
The facility holds a 4.9-star rating from 395 verified customer reviews, with 96% awarding five stars.
