The 601 N. California St. location houses two distinct chapels: a large chapel with traditional wooden bench seating and a smaller chapel with flexible seating configurations. DeYoung Memorial Chapel traces its roots to 1888 when James Ford opened his "undertaking establishment" at 117 S. Center St. in downtown Stockton. The business moved to its current location at 601 N. California St. in 1937, where it has remained for more than 80 years across four generations of family ownership before joining the Dignity Memorial network in 2014.
Today the chapel operates two Stockton locations: the historic downtown chapel convenient to Interstates 5, Highway 4 and Highway 99, and DeYoung Shoreline Chapel at 7676 Shoreline Driveāstill the only funeral home in North Stockton since its 1990 opening. The downtown location offers ample street parking and proximity to San Joaquin Catholic Cemetery and Stockton Rural Cemetery.
