The mortuary occupies a renovated facility featuring a large-capacity chapel accommodating up to 250 guests, five spacious drawing rooms for visitations and arrangements, and multiple indoor and outdoor garden areas. The 1980 renovation expanded parking to accommodate large funeral services. The on-site crematory, added in 1983, operates under the mortuary's direct management. The facility is wheelchair accessible and offers flexible event space for both funeral services and personal gatherings.
The mortuary offers transparent pricing with four published price lists covering itemized services, burial merchandise, cremation merchandise, and package options. CareCredit financing is available for families needing payment assistance.
Stricklin/Snively Mortuary traces its origins to 1905, when Edgar and Kate McFadyen established one of Long Beach's first undertaking parlors at 135 East 3rd Street. The firm relocated to its current location at 1952 Long Beach Boulevard in 1919, then a considerable distance from downtown, requiring the McFadyens to operate their own livery stable for funeral carriage transportation. Following ownership transitions to the Sheelar family in 1948 and the Stricklin family in 1966, the mortuary merged with Patterson & Snively Mortuary in 1979 to become the present Stricklin/Snively Mortuary.
The facility underwent a $1 million renovation in 1980, expanding the chapel and adding five drawing rooms, indoor and outdoor garden areas, and increased parking. A significant addition came in 1983 with the construction of the Long Beach Crematory, giving the mortuary complete in-house cremation capabilities. Today, the mortuary operates as part of the Dignity Memorial network while maintaining its local identity and century-long presence in the community.
The mortuary emphasizes personalized memorial services, with staff creating customized celebrations of life that reflect individual passions—from golf-themed services with putting greens to garden-inspired events with seed packet keepsakes.
