The Georgian-style funeral home occupies 20,000 square feet on the cemetery grounds, designed for comfort and flexibility. The chapel accommodates approximately 300 guests with full audio-visual capabilities for video tributes. Four spacious staterooms provide private spaces for visitations and family gatherings. A dedicated private family area offers seclusion during services. The facility includes a coffee lounge and flexible event space available for personal events beyond funeral services. The 65-acre cemetery features manicured gardens with rolling hills, open pavilions for committal services and meditation, and multiple mausoleum structures. The Chapel of Love includes marble-faced columbaria with glass-front niches displaying bronze urns. Cemetery hours are sunrise to sunset.
Valhalla emphasizes personalized tributes designed around what makes each loved one special, with professional funeral directors guiding families through traditional burials, cremations, and modern celebrations of life.
Valhalla Funeral Home & Memory Gardens traces its origins to 1972, when Ralph and Ruby Stubblefield—tobacco farmers from Middle Tennessee—purchased 65 undeveloped acres on a north Alabama hillside with a vision of creating serene cemetery gardens. The Stubblefields developed the first Chapel Garden and opened Huntsville's first community mausoleum, the Chapel of Devotion, in 1974. Sixteen years later, in 1988, they expanded their vision to include Valhalla Funeral Home, creating a rare integrated facility where families could hold services and lay loved ones to rest without leaving the grounds.
Today the 20,000-square-foot Georgian-style funeral home sits on the cemetery grounds, featuring four spacious staterooms and a chapel with capacity for approximately 300 guests. The cemetery has grown to include nine traditional burial gardens, multiple mausoleums, and specialized sections including the Valor Garden for veterans with over 1,000 lawn burials. The Stubblefields themselves are entombed side-by-side in the Chapel of Love mausoleum, having died within seven weeks of each other in 2007. Since 2007, Valhalla has operated as part of the Dignity Memorial network.
